Draft — 2008 Revision

Developmentally Appropriate Practice in Early Childhood Programs Serving Children from Birth through Age 8

Adobe Reader

In 2006 NAEYC’s Governing Board appointed a working group to advise staff on the preparation of a revision of the current NAEYC Position Statement on Developmentally Appropriate Practice (adopted July 1996). Like all NAEYC position statements, the revised statement must go to the Governing Board for approval.

In preparation, a draft revision of the statement is made available for public comment, and the feedback reviewed. The resulting final draft will be reviewed by Board members at their April 2008 meeting, where they will offer any further suggestions and determine whether to approve the revised statement’s basic concepts. With that Governing Board feedback and a final in-house edit, revisions to the statement will conclude and a new statement on Developmentally Appropriate Practice will be submitted for official Board approval in July 2008.

NAEYC is now seeking feedback on this draft revision from anyone who would like to offer their comments. The draft will remain posted until March 28, 2008, and comments received by that date will be considered.
