The NAEYC Academy will develop and maintain a process to ensure that accreditation decisions are made using reliable tools and data collection protocols.
The Council for NAEYC Accreditation oversees accreditation decisions and sets, reviews, and oversees the implementation of the definitions for the following accreditation decisions:
o Accredited: the program demonstrates satisfactory performance in meeting all requirements for NAEYC Accreditation
o Accredited requiring verification: to maintain NAEYC Accreditation, the program is required to have an additional verification visit as a result of an area of concern related to the program's full compliance with a Required Criterion. While this concern was not determined to be a serious violation, additional verification is needed to determine the program's capacity to maintain the Required Criterion over time.
o Deferred: the program does not demonstrate satisfactory performance in meeting all requirements for NAEYC Accreditation, but shows evidence that it can achieve the performance necessary to achieve accreditation in a defined period of time
o Denied: the program does not demonstrate satisfactory performance in meeting all requirements for NAEYC Accreditation and does not show evidence that it can achieve the performance necessary to achieve accreditation in a defined period of time
o Revoked: an NAEYC Accredited program does not show evidence that it continues to meet and maintain all requirements for NAEYC Accreditation
o Inactive: An accredited program that may experience a disruption that impacts its ability to care for children. A program must have legitimately requested and been approved to temporarily shut down their child care program. Disruptions considered for granting this status include, but are not limited to: building renovations, military deployments, extended illness, serious economic hardship.
