NAEYC’s Extensions Policy always included the sentence, “Extensions are granted on a very limited, case-by-case basis.” In other words, it was very difficult to get an extension, and requesting an extension did not guarantee that one would be granted. After careful consideration and evaluation of feedback from programs, NAEYC has decided to modify the extensions process by adopting a new process that gives programs more flexibility and clearer options when they have trouble meeting deadlines or having a site visit.
