Training Opportunities for Faculty Compiling Reports

In conjunction with the NAEYC National Institute, NAEYC offers a full-day workshop to support faculty preparing an early childhood program report for NCATE accreditation on Saturday, June 7, 2008, from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. in New Orleans, Louisiana.

NCATE Accreditation: An NAEYC Workshop for Faculty Compiling Program Reports

NAEYC's standards and NCATE's accreditation process for early childhood professional preparation set expectations and a vision for the field, supporting quality and recognition of quality of higher education early childhood programs. If done well, the report and review process allows programs to engage in meaningful self-study so faculty can truly improve students’ knowledge and skills—and receive recognition for a job well done.

A team of NAEYC staff and experienced program reviewers, successful report compilers, and BOE members will facilitate this interactive workshop.  Learn about designing assessments that align with the NAEYC standards, see what an effective rubric looks like, and discover how to present persuasive data.

Learn about the steps involved in going through the program review process—and improving your program—the five sections of the program report, the six to eight required assessments, and how best to communicate your program’s unique context.  Return to your institution with a notebook that includes program report templates, NAEYC and NCATE standards, sample report sections, background articles, planning tools, and other practical resources.

Benefits of Attending:

  • Receive an orientation to the five sections of the program report and the six to eight required assessments
  • Gain ideas about developing early childhood programs and program-level assessment systems that meet new NCATE and NAEYC expectations and support excellent professional preparation
  • Examine various approaches to gathering, synthesizing, and reporting assessment data, and look at examples
  • Meet colleagues who are also engaged in the program review process
  • Return to your institution with an action plan, examples, resources, practical tools, and supportive professional relationships

Please note: This Workshop is designed for faculty and administrators (such as department chairs and teacher education directors) in college and university early childhood professional preparation programs. The Workshop will not address NAEYC Accreditation for center- and school-based programs for young children.

Registration: $195 for NAEYC members; $275 for nonmembers. Includes materials, continental breakfast, lunch, and light refreshments. Registration will be available beginning in March 2008.  Click on the link for pre-conference workshops: http://www.naeyc.org/conferences/institute.asp .

The next workshop will be held in conjunction with the Annual Conference & Expo in Dallas, Texas, in November 2008.  For further information about this conference, please visit http://www.annualconference.naeyc.org/.
