About the Consulting Editor Position
Consulting Editors review and recommend Young Children article submissions and book manuscripts for potential publication and distribution by NAEYC. They provide recommendations regarding the NAEYC publications program. They are appointed by the NAEYC Governing Board for three-year terms.
Responsibilities
Consulting Editors are experts in their field. They are expected to devote four to six hours per month to reviewing books and/or Young Children proposals or manuscripts. They provide the editorial team with careful thoughts and analysis into the manuscripts they review, as well as consistent feedback on all NAEYC publications. Consulting Editors are also encouraged to identify and nurture potential authors and contributors to Young Children and the books program. The NAEYC editorial team communicates with Consulting Editors primarily through e-mail, so the successful candidate will have a working e-mail address and respond to e-mails in a timely fashion. They are also required to regularly check Young Children's online submission database, Manuscript Central, and will have a reliable internet connection.
Eligibility/Selection Process
The Consulting Editor position is open to any NAEYC member who submits an application. Applicants are evaluated for expertise and relevant experience. Applications are reviewed by the Periodicals and Books' editorial team, and by members of the NAEYC Executive Staff.
Term of Service
Consulting Editors serve a three-year term beginning September 1, 2012. The position is renewable in some cases with reapplication.
