Council for NAEYC Accreditation Programs for Young Children

The Council for NAEYC Accreditation is currently seeking dynamic, qualified candidates who are dedicated to promoting early childhood quality through program accreditation. There are three vacancies on the Council for persons interested in serving three-year terms beginning in September 2012.

Committed to ensuring the equity, integrity, and accountability of its accreditation system serving programs for young children, the NAEYC Governing Board established the Council for NAEYC Accreditation to monitor the work of the NAEYC Academy for Early Childhood Program Accreditation. Five primary responsibilities have been delegated to the Council:

  1. Review and approve the accreditation operating policies and procedures of NAEYC’s accreditation system.
  2. Monitor the Academy’s operations using performance standards for accountability.
  3. Oversee accreditation decisions.
  4. Recommend to the NAEYC Governing Board cooperative relationships with other accreditation systems.
  5. Review and revise NAEYC’s accreditation criteria for approval by the Governing Board.

The Council is comprised of nine members, each appointed for a period of three years. Meetings are held three times per year to conduct its business although committee work, typically online in nature, occurs throughout the year. Orientation to Council work and ongoing support are provided by Council members and NAEYC staff. Travel, accommodations, and food costs are covered.

The Council is to be comprised of diverse membership, including but not limited to program and/or organizational auspices, professional experience, gender, ethnicity, and geographic variation. Only NAEYC members can apply for Council appointment.

The application deadline is April 6, 2012. Applications must be submitted online at www.naeyc.org/getinvolved/council/apply. Telephone interviews will be held for final candidates on May 21, 2012, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Eastern Standard time.

Need more information? A webinar will be held for persons interested in being considered for appointment to the Council for NAEYC Accreditation. It will be held on March 7, 2012, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Eastern Standard time. For webinar details, please contact Brenda Osuch, Director of Accreditation Operations, at bosuch@naeyc.org or 202-232-8777, ext 8307.
