Criteria for NAEYC Recognition
NAEYC has created a Request for Qualifications Form that serves as the application for current early childhood leadership development programs seeking to partner with NAEYC as an NAEYC-Recognized Leadership Development Program.
- Sustainability as determined by having been in existence for at least one year; having had one cohort of participants complete the program; and indication of fiscal viability
- Curriculum that is contextual to the field of early childhood education, including content in early childhood and related fields, leadership development, advocacy, and public policy
- Innovation and excellence in teaching and instruction that include a variety of modalities of delivery and support
- Program faculty qualified to deliver the curriculum and innovative approaches
- Participant support through an assigned mentor or coach
- A commitment to diversity and inclusivity
- A process with criteria for the selection of program participants
- An alignment with NAEYC’s mission that includes a broad view of early childhood education issues
Leadership development programs meeting the above criteria will be posted as NAEYC-Recognized Leadership Development Programs on our website. Legacy Leader Fellowships may only be used in an NAEYC-Recognized Program. The NAEYC-Recognized posting will include the program name and pertinent contact information. If feasible, NAEYC would like to provide the web link to any online information about the Recognized Program including its application. The list of NAEYC-Recognized Programs will be continually updated as additional programs submit materials.
