Magazine Features Best Practices for Teachers Who Educate Our Youngest Learners
(Berkeley, Calif.) – Gladys Biscocho, a teacher at Franklin Preschool in the Berkeley Unified School District, has been recognized for her achievements as an early childhood educator by being featured on the cover of NAEYC’s Teaching Young Children (TYC).
“We are pleased to feature Gladys Biscocho on our cover,” said Derry Koralek, Editor-in-Chief of TYC. “She is a dedicated, experienced educator who is committed to the children she teaches and to her own professional growth.”
Biscocho is one of a series of excellent preschool educators chosen to be featured on the cover of TYC since the magazine’s debut in fall of 2007. TYC is distributed to nearly 30,000 readers nationwide. Each issue provides useful, research-based ideas that preschool teachers can use in their work with children and families. TYC is also available in Spanish as Tesoros Y Colores.
Biscocho, who is a Master’s degree candidate in the Educational Leadership Program at Mills College, describes her teaching style as engaging and individualized. She says she became a teacher because she believed that she could make a difference in a child’s life. In her classroom she strives to discover each child’s learning style, follow their interests, and build strong relationships with their families.
She believes her program is strengthened by partnerships with the YWCA Pre-Kindergarten Enrichment Program and Berkeley School Volunteers, which she says “provide opportunities for leadership, growth, mentorship, and service” and demonstrate “the community’s commitment to supporting early care and education.”
