NAEYC Launches New Website to Help Families
Find High-Quality Child Care
Site also includes articles by renowned Drs. T. Berry Brazelton and Joshua Sparrow on issues of interest to families with young children
WASHINGTON —The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the nation’s leading professional organization for those working with and on behalf of young children from birth through age 8, is pleased to announce the launch of the new For Families website, a valuable resource for parents and families with young children.
The For Families site provides families with information on finding quality child care, articles about how children learn by well-known pediatricians and child development experts, and creative learning ideas to try at home. In addition, the site contains a searchable database to help families locate centers and schools accredited by NAEYC for their infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.
“NAEYC understands how important it is to parents and families to select a high-quality program for their children,” said Jerlean E. Daniel, Ph.D., Executive Director of NAEYC. “We developed the For Families website to help them find the best possible early childhood experience for their child and to share useful, research-based parenting and child development information.”
To help parents locate high-quality early childhood programs in their area, the site contains an NAEYC-Accredited program search. NAEYC-Accredited programs have met NAEYC’s 10 standards for high-quality early childhood education. These programs have demonstrated that they provide a safe and healthy environment for children, have teachers who are well-trained, have access to excellent teaching materials, and work with a curriculum that is appropriately challenging and developmentally sound.
The site also includes “Families Today,” a column by Drs. T. Berry Brazelton and Joshua Sparrow that helps families and caregivers understand the meaning behind children’s behaviors. The column, which was previously syndicated in The New York Times, serves as a forum for answering everyday and unusual questions about children’s behavior, development, learning, and health posed by adults who care for and about children.
NAEYC will update the website regularly to provide timely, research-based information about children’s learning and development. To learn more, visit http://families.naeyc.org.
Founded in 1926, the National Association for the Education of Young Children is the largest and most influential advocate for high-quality early care and education in the United States.
