Policy Update: NAEYC Submits Comments with Others on Draft Criteria for Early Learning Challenge Grants

NAEYC SUBMITS COMMENTS WITH OTHERS ON DRAFT CRITERIA FOR EARLY LEARNING CHALLENGE GRANTS
 
The Secretaries of Health and Human Services and Education released draft criteria for state applications for the Race to the Top Early Learning Challenge Grants and provided a short period for public comments. The Administration has said that applications should become available by the end of the summer with a quick turnaround for submitting applications.
 
NAEYC, together with several organizations, submitted its comments which you can read here.
 
RESOURCES ON STATE ADVISORY COUNCILS ON EARLY CARE & EDUCATION
NAEYC has added a page to our website on State Advisory Councils on Early Childhood Education and Care here. It provides a compilation of a variety of resources which will be updated as more become available for Councils, practitioners, policymakers and other interested parties relating to the required areas of work for State Advisory Councils on Early Childhood Education. We hope it proves useful to your work.

PROMISE NEIGHBORHOOD GRANTS
This week the U.S. Department of Education published the application for the second phase of Promise Neighborhood program grants. This includes new planning and implementation grants. The Department expects to award first-year funds for four to six implementation grants with an estimated grant award of $4 million to $6 million. Implementation grantees will receive annual grants over a period of three to five years with total awards ranging from $12 million to $30 million. Remaining 2011 funds will go toward 10 new one-year planning grants with an estimated grant award of $500,000. Applications are due September 6, 2011. Learn more
