OFFICE OF CHILD CARE REPLACES CHILD CARE BUREAU
It’s official – the Office of Child Care replaces the Child Care Bureau, putting it on par with the Office of Head Start in the organization chart of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The Office of Child Care has published Pathways and Partnerships Priorities, including resources related to the workforce and professional development, quality rating and improvement systems, health and safety, program integrity and accountability, and cross-sector systems building. NEW NATIONAL TRAINING AND ASSISTANCE CENTERS
Four new national training and technical assistance centers were given grant awards. They will help local Head Start programs with research and evidence-based best practices in the classroom. The new centers are focused on Quality Teaching and Learning; Parent, Family and Community Engagement; Cultural and Linguistic Responsiveness; and Program Management and Fiscal Operations. NEW RESOURCES FOR STATES' INFANT AND TODDLER EARLY LEARNING GUIDELINES
Currently, 31 states and 3 territories have published Early Learning Guidelines for infants and toddlers, and several states and territories are now developing them. As states develop, implement, and revise these guidelines, new resources are available to offer options and guidance. The University of North Carolina at Greensboro and Teacher's College at Columbia University have a new paper on what states should consider when writing or revising Early Learning Guidelines, and the ZERO TO THREE Policy Center/National Infant & Toddler Child Care Initiative have released a toolkit on implementation of Infant-Toddler Early Learning Guidelines. ZERO TO THREE and NITCCI are hosting a webinar on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at 2:00 pm eastern (1:00 pm central, 12:00 pm mountain, and 11:00 am pacific) featuring these new resources.
