NAEYC Children's Champions ALERT
Call the White House Today and Tomorrow (December 9 - 10)

Dear Advocate for Children and Families:

The Obama Administration is working now on the budget recommendations that the President will make for the next fiscal year. We need to make sure that early childhood education programs are prioritized in the President's budget request.

NAEYC and many other organizations are asking you to call the White House on Wednesday December 9 and Thursday December 10 to ask for funding increases for the core federal early childhood programs in the 2011 budget request.

Call the White House comment line at 202-456-1111. Remember to leave your name, city and state.

What is the message for the call?

We are asking the President Obama to include in his budget request:

  • a $3.7 billion increase for the Child Care and Development Block Grant,
  • a $3.7 billion increase for Head Start and Early Head Start,
  • a $400 million increase for IDEA Preschool and
  • a $500 million increase for infants and toddlers with disabilities and special needs.

These investments in early childhood education will help America prosper and reach its potential. With more support, more children will get the strong start they need to succeed in school and in life, and more parents will get the help they need to work.

Why is it important that the President's budget include these increases?

The President's budget sends a signal to Congress on what should be the top investments in the next budget cycle ─ ultimately setting the blueprint for what gets in next year's federal budget. Please help make sure that we have a federal budget that supports children and early childhood education programs.

Thank you.
