NAEYC's Call to Action for the 113th Congress
With the start of every new Congress (a two-year period), NAEYC releases its federal policy agenda. On March 19, 2013, NAEYC released its Call to Action for the 113th Congress.
NAEYC’s policy recommendations address the key opportunities at the federal level for a well-financed, high-quality continuum of early childhood education, supporting children (from birth through age eight) and early childhood professionals across all settings.
Hundreds of copies were delivered to members of Congress by participants at this year’s NAEYC Public Policy Forum, in addition to these handouts.
President's Budget to Be Released Next Week
The President’s budget request for fiscal year 2014 (October 1, 2013 through September 30, 2014) will be released on April 10. Stay tuned for an update with more details on the President’s budget plan overall, specifics on early childhood education, and action steps.
New York Times Article on Child Care Wages
Families are increasingly seeking alternatives to paid child care due to rising costs. Yet what remains the same are wages for full-time child care workers, according to a 2011 reporthighlighted by the New York Times today. In fact, median wages (in constant dollars) have increased by only $582 over the past three decades. Read the full article here.
