Thanks to You, We Delivered 30,000+ Letters & Artwork to the White House
A very special thank you to all of you who sent in your letters and artwork by children in early childhood programs all over the country to show your support for the President’s historic early learning proposal. Together with our partners from the Strong Start for Children- Building America’s Future coalition, we surpassed our goal of collecting 10,000 letters to thank the Administration for putting a priority on young children. In fact, we delivered more than 30,000 letters and artwork to the White House yesterday!

The State of Preschool 2012:
State Preschool Programs Face Decreased Funding and Stalled Enrollment
The National Institute for Early Education Research (NIEER) has released its annual report on state funding for prekindergarten. The 2012 report shows that state funding for preschool decreased by over half a billion dollars in 2011-2012, the largest one year drop ever.
According to the report, the decline in state funding has resulted in two historic firsts: after a decade of growth, enrollment has stalled (no increase in the percentage of children served in state preschool) and state funding per child has decreased by over $400 compared to last year. Due to these large cuts, seven state programs lost ground in meeting NIEER’s quality standards benchmarks this past year. We know from research that investing in high-quality preschool produces substantial gains in school readiness and builds positive skills valuable throughout a child’s life. More than ever, it is crucial that we make high-quality preschool a top priority on our national agenda.
