Much of the 1991 position statement has been replaced with updated and expanded perspectives that include preparation of Early Childhood Professionals in general and the higher education programs preparing those professionals. The replaced portions of the 1991 position statement appear as strike overs of the text. What remains of the 1991 Early Childhood Teacher Certification position statement addresses teacher certification only. The most recent version of NAEYC’s professional preparation standards for programs was published in 2003 and can be found among the current NAEYC position statements and standards.
