The number of men working as teachers in the field of early childhood education has steadily declined over the past 40 years. Yet, the need for men in this field has never been greater. Children need positive male role models to learn about gender identity and balance. They also need exposure to both men and women to learn how they work together and enhance each other's skills. 

Creating an environment that supports social studies concepts can be challenging. This DVD focuses on setting up an early childhood classroom for a community of learners, as well as incorporating history standards for preschoolers in developmentally appropriate ways.

The accompanying PowerPoint CD guides viewers through theoretical concepts introduced in the video, highlights other developmentally appropriate social studies activities, and shows how to create materials featured in the DVD through step-by-step pictures and descriptions.
