Help NAEYC publications achieve the quality and expertise educators need while gaining great professional experience by reviewing Young Children articles and book proposals. Consulting Editors review book proposals and articles that have been submitted for publication. NAEYC requests specific feedback using our detailed rubrics.

You must be a current NAEYC member in good standing to serve in this capacity. You may submit an application without an active membership number, but you will be required to become a member prior to the initiation of your service.

Please attach a professional resume that outlines your professional preparation; related professional volunteer service (peer review, governance, etc.) during the past 10 years; and any publications, awards, or other noteworthy accomplishments within the past 5 years. Please submit a personal statement describing why you are interested in serving as a Young Children/NAEYC publications consulting editor and the strengths you would bring to this role. You may choose how you wish to organize your statement, but please address the following topics: how your interests and professional experience match the goals of Young Children and NAEYC’s book publishing program your specific content areas of knowledge and perspectives (for example, role, setting, age groups) within the wide range of topics relevant to the early childhood profession your experience as a peer reviewer of manuscripts, conference proposals, etc., for NAEYC or other associations your experience as an author how you think Young Children and NAEYC’s book publishing program can meet the diverse needs of educators who work with young children and their families the types of books and articles that you are best suited to review Your personal statement should not exceed two typed pages, with margins of at least 1" on all sides and a font size of 11 or greater. Personal statements must be in PDF or Microsoft Word format.
