Fall 2024 TYC Self-Study Series on STEM: Making time for Tinkering

  You are here
The NAEYC Self-Study Series is a compilation of selected topics related to early childhood education and published in Teaching Young Children. The purpose of the series is to support early childhood educators in refining their practices to develop intentional teaching strategies, foster equitable learning environments, and ground learning experiences for children in developmentally appropriate practice (DAP). You will gain invaluable knowledge, insights, and strategies from some of the leading voices in the field that you can test and try in your own setting.
For the Fall 2024 Teaching Young Children issue, the self-study article is “Making Time for Tinkering: A Playful Pathway Toward STEM Learning.”
Through this self-study course, you will learn to:

- Describe teacher tinkering.
- Plan for and apply strategies to tinker in a playful way to become more confident about STEM concepts and skills.
- Make connections between the process of teachers’ own tinkering and how they support children’s STEM learning.
- Create learning goals and select materials to support children’s tinkering.
