NAEYC CEO Statement on Cutting DC's Pay Equity Fund

This statement can be attributed to Michelle Kang, NAEYC CEO:
"The District of Columbia has made several tremendously important and positive investments in early childhood education and educators. These nationally-recognized advancements have improved the lives of educators, as well as the children and families they serve. Reversing and undermining these investments by cutting child care subsidies and slashing the Early Childhood Educator Pay Equity Fund – which is already generating meaningful and measurable outcomes – would be a significant and costly mistake that risks a collapse of the essential early learning and child care sector upon which the District’s economy rests.
We urge the District of Columbia not to balance their budget on the backs of the early childhood educators, and to uphold their commitments by recognizing and investing in the valuable and important work they do."
