Governing Board At-Large Candidate
For over 25 years, I have devoted my professional life to the advancement of early childhood education, working as a consultant, supervisor, advocate, and community leader. I am deeply honored to submit my application for the NAEYC Governing Board, where I hope to contribute my experience, insight, and commitment to equity, access, and excellence in early learning for all children.
My interest in serving on the NAEYC Governing Board stems from my long-standing respect for the organization’s leadership in shaping national discourse, practice standards, and early education policy. As early education is evolving, I believe this is a critical moment to deepen collaboration, champion equity, and reimagine systems that support young children, families, and the early education professionals.
Throughout my career, I have developed a broad perspective on early childhood education. I have led programs serving diverse populations, trained educators and leaders across the country, and worked in various collaborations to strengthen communities. Since 2017, I have served on the Board of Directors of the YMCA of Greater Houston, including in the role of Board Chair. I have also served on other relevant governing boards throughout the years.
In various capacities, I have helped lead strategic planning efforts, supported large-scale early learning initiatives, and worked to increase equitable access to education and wellness services in underserved communities. Through both volunteerism and paid experiences, I feel I am grounded in leadership, strategic thinking, and accountability which has equipped me with a strong foundation in nonprofit leadership.
One of the greatest strengths I bring is my ability to bridge vision with implementation and understand management versus leadership practices. I am deeply invested in inclusive leadership, ensuring that all voices are heard and valued in decision-making processes. My knowledge of systems-building, program development, and professional development equips me to contribute meaningfully to NAEYC’s efforts to elevate the profession and advocate for change.
NAEYC’s current Strategic Plan centers equity, excellence, and innovation that I represent daily. My experience in community leadership positions me to advocate for more collective and integrated approaches that addresses educational outcomes and the well-being of children, families, and educators. I also bring a strong commitment to elevating educator voice and supporting pathways to leadership.
I believe NAEYC has a powerful role to play in not just responding to today’s challenges, but in shaping a bold and inclusive future for early childhood education. I would be honored to contribute to that vision as a Governing Board member, bringing my expertise, my deep community engagement, and my passion for this work to serve NAEYC.
Thank you for your consideration.
