Wendy Occhipinti serves as the Executive Director of the Florida Association for the Education of Young Children (FLAEYC), where she leads statewide efforts to advance high-quality early learning and strengthen Florida’s early childhood education workforce. She is passionate about supporting educators, building meaningful partnerships, and advocating for policies that help children, families, and early childhood professionals thrive.
Wendy holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a graduate teaching certification in Elementary Education. Her journey in early childhood education began in a preschool classroom, where she quickly discovered a love for the curiosity, joy, and growth that characterize the early years. That experience sparked a lifelong commitment to ensuring that young children have access to high-quality learning experiences and that the educators who serve them are valued and supported.
She later moved into program leadership as an early childhood director, focusing on quality improvement, educator mentorship, and leadership development. Prior to becoming Executive Director, Wendy served as FLAEYC’s Director of Member Engagement, connecting with early childhood professionals across Florida through events, professional learning opportunities, and community-building initiatives. These experiences deepened her appreciation for the dedication and resilience of the early childhood workforce and continue to shape her leadership today.
With experience as a teacher, director, trainer, and parent educator, Wendy brings both practical expertise and a relationship-centered approach to her work. She has supported programs through the NAEYC Accreditation process, developed innovative curricula, mentored emerging leaders, and worked alongside families and community partners to strengthen outcomes for children.
Originally from New Jersey, Wendy now enjoys life in Florida—especially its beaches, sunshine, and hidden treasures found during weekend consignment adventures. When she’s not working to advance early childhood education, she can often be found reading by the ocean with a good book in hand.
