  You are here
The NAEYC Self-Study Series is a compilation of selected topics related to early childhood education and published in Teaching Young Children. The purpose of the series is to support early childhood educators in refining their practices to develop intentional teaching strategies, foster equitable learning environments, and ground learning experiences for children in developmentally appropriate practice (DAP). You will gain invaluable knowledge, insights, and strategies from some of the leading voices in the field that you can test and try in your own setting.
For the Winter 2025 Teaching Young Children issue, the self-study article is “Fostering STEM Identity and Representation: The Importance of Collecting Books to Reflect Children’s Experiences.”
Through this self-study, you will learn to:

- Identify the role that diverse books play in early STEM education.
- Identify barriers to accessing diverse books in homes, communities, and early learning settings.
- Plan and implement strategies to develop a diverse STEM book collection.
