Travis Morgan, Ph.D., is Program Coordinator and Assistant Professor in the Department of Early Childhood, Elementary, and Inclusive Studies at Athens State University and the founder of Their Rights, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring equitable access to services and supports for children and families. In his role, he leads curriculum design, program assessment, and accreditation-aligned continuous improvement initiatives. He has previously served as a classroom teacher, school administrator, and consultant to schools and child development centers across Alabama.
Dr. Morgan’s scholarship focuses on credentialing pathways in the early childhood workforce, schema play, Piagetian theory, the pedagogy of mathematics and science, and children’s psychosocial and moral development. He earned both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Arts in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, graduating with honors and being named Outstanding Master’s Student. He earned his Ph.D. in Early Childhood Education from Auburn University, where his dissertation examined teachers’ knowledge and perspectives of schema play in early childhood classrooms.
A native of Enterprise, Alabama, Dr. Morgan is deeply committed to advancing equity in education and supporting children, families, and educators. He enjoys spending time with his son and family, traveling, reading, writing, practicing yoga, and being outdoors.
